The stranger made his way round to the main door of the dining hall, turning his collar against the North Sea tempest. As he approached a key rattled in the lock and the door swung open.
‘Si signore. What can I do for you?’ enquired the keyholder.
‘You can let me in out of this feckin’ weather for starters.’ The stranger shoved the keyholder aside, ripping off his overcoat shaking it with a fury. He threw it on to a dining table knocking the flower vase to the floor smashing it to pieces. ‘Che palle!’ cried the keyholder hands held above his shoulders in protest. ‘Look signore, look what you do.’
‘Never mind the feckin’ vase. I’m here for one thing only. I’m going to ask yeez a simple question. How the rest of your day pans out will depend on the answer ya give. D’youse understand me sonny?’
‘Si signore’ nodded the keyholder.
‘Ok then. Where do I find Tommy Baker?’

Liz –
This is the authors first book and I am greatly impressed. I’m an avid reader of thrillers and crime. This is a well written and easy to read novel set in 1950’s South London and the north east coast. The story was well structured with enough twists and turns to keep the reader engrossed. It was also interesting to read about how life was for Italians and other Europeans living in the UK during and after WWII. A good page-turner. Ideal holiday read.

Stuart Amesbury –
A thoroughly good read and indicative of a period that falls within the living memory for some and yet for others, it might be hard to comprehend that this was the middle of the twentieth century.
Very engaging and therefore, well written.

Thank you for your encouragement Stuart! So pleased you enjoyed my efforts.
John Murray –
A wonderfully descriptive account of post war life in the East End of London around Tooley Street. The good, the bad, and the ugly are accurately portrayed in a true period setting. The fast narrative takes us on a nail biting action backed trip to Norfolk and back .
A truly great read that is the anthesis of ‘Call The Midwife’. The notes from the Author are well worth reading at the end.

Thank you John for a kind and rewarding review. PS Bermondsey is South East London not the East End – but I’ll forgive you 🙂
