Opportunity Watch FAQ
Straight answers to the questions small builders are most likely to ask.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I need Opportunity Watch if I’m already busy?
Because being busy today does not always mean the forward order book is secure.
Recent FMB data reported that 40% of small builders had seen a fall in enquiries, while ONS construction figures showed output weakening in the months to August, including a fall in private new housing.
Opportunity Watch is designed to help small building firms keep an eye on what may be coming next while they concentrate on the work already in hand.
Can’t I find these opportunities myself?
Yes.
The information is often available through public sources, local planning systems, business networks and other channels.
The question is whether searching, filtering and interpreting all of that is the best use of your time.
Opportunity Watch does that work in the background and brings potentially worthwhile opportunities to your attention.
Do you just send me planning applications?
No.
Planning information can be one source, but Opportunity Watch is not simply a planning-alert service.
We look for relevant local building opportunities, consider whether they fit the kind of work your business is equipped to take on, and give you a concise commercial overview before you decide whether to pursue them.
Will every subscriber receive the same opportunities?
No.
Opportunity Watch is designed around local territories, subscriber location and the type of work each business is interested in.
The aim is relevance, not volume.
How many builders do you work with in the same area?
Opportunity Watch is deliberately kept small within each local area. We do not want dozens of builders receiving the same opportunities. Subscriber numbers are limited so the service remains useful and locally relevant.
Do you guarantee work?
No.
Opportunity Watch identifies and interprets opportunities. You decide whether an opportunity suits your business and whether you want to pursue it.
How much does it cost?
£50 per month, paid by Direct Debit.
There is no long-term contract.
Can I stop if I become fully booked?
Yes.
In fact, that is entirely consistent with how Opportunity Watch is intended to work.
You may need help finding opportunities when the forward order book is light, then decide you no longer need the service once you are busy again.
Is Opportunity Watch only for domestic work?
No.
The service looks across the territory for relevant opportunities, whether domestic or commercial.
What matters is whether the opportunity suits the type and scale of work your business is equipped to undertake.
What areas do you cover?
Opportunity Watch is being introduced territory by territory.
The current service covers Territory #1 across North Somerset, Somerset and Bath & North East Somerset.
Keeping the service territory-based allows subscriber numbers to remain deliberately limited and the opportunities locally relevant.
